UNCG Prepared if Hurricane Weather Disrupts Campus Schedule
GREENSBORO, NC - With tropical storm Hanna threatening to strike the East Coast and Hurricane Ike churning out in the Atlantic, the UNCG community can learn quickly of any emergency measures.

UNCG officials are monitoring the advance of both storms and have emergency measures ready to go into place to provide for the safety of the university community, according to Rollin Donelson, associate vice chancellor for public safety and police.

Approximately 4,400 students live on campus in residence halls. Students are encouraged to purchase flashlights for use if a power outage occurs, and to assemble a disaster kit. Candles should not be used in residence halls under any circumstances. The Dining Hall is equipped to provide meals for those on campus.

UNCG will remain open during adverse weather conditions unless an administrative decision on changing work and class schedules is made by Chancellor Linda P. Brady.

Details will be available on the UNCG home page (http://www.uncg.edu/), the UNCG Emergency Information page (http://www.uncg-campus.info/), or by dialing three campus telephone numbers: Adverse Weather Line (336-334-4400); Campus Switchboard (336-334-5000); and University Police (336-334-5963). Details will be available on the Triad's four television stations: WFMY-TV (News 2), WGHP-TV (FOX 8), WXII-TV (News Channel 12) and News 14 Carolina.

For overnight weather problems, efforts will be made to provide the information no later than 6-6:30 a.m. In most cases, if an announcement is not made by 6:30 a.m., UNCG will open on its regular schedule. Public announcements will be made via television and radio only if there is a modification of the normal schedule of classes.

On days when adverse weather delays the opening of the university, students and faculty should proceed to classes that would be in progress, regardless of the campus reopening time. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, for example, if the university's opening is delayed until 10 a.m., then all 9:30 a.m. classes will begin at 10 a.m. and will end at their regularly scheduled time. Make-up of any missed classes or class time will be arranged at the discretion of the professor.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to visit the Human Resource Services web page to familiarize themselves with the adverse weather leave policy (http://www.uncg.edu/hrs/advweath.htm) and the adverse weather conditions table (http://www.uncg.edu/hrs/advtable.htm). Persons with questions should call HRS at 336-334-5009.
