Receiving emergency notification

You can receive emergency notification by:

Web

Emergency information will be posted on the university homepage (www.uncg.edu ) and on this emergency information web site (www.uncg-campus.info ). During a major crisis this emergency information site will replace UNCG's homepage.

SMS Emergency Text Messaging

Emergency notification is available to students, faculty and staff who have signed up and provided cell phone contact information through their UNCGenie accounts.

Computer Screen Pop-Up and RSS Feed

Alert messages will be delivered to all computers logged onto the internet and running this program. New campus computers will have the software installed as a part of the standard campus image. Additionally, users can subscribe to the alert message RSS feed. Information about downloading the alert message pop-up software and subscribing to the RSS feed is available at http://notify.uncg.edu/ .

“Blue Light” Telephone, Public Address & Sirens

More than 150 emergency phone stations are located around the UNCG campus. Several are equipped to deliver emergency public address messages and to sound siren alarms.

Classroom Public Address

Emergency announcements and call-ins can be heard or made through a speaker system in classrooms that is handled through the Information Technology network.

UNCG Information Radio Station 1640 AM

This channel will broadcast updated information during an emergency. More than 120 administrative offices on campus have hand-powered radios to receive information during power outages. The messages will also be webcast as streaming audio.

Emergency and Adverse Weather Telephone Line

You can call to check on alert messages that will be posted at (336) 334-4400 and also on UNCG’s main number (336) 334-5000.

Mass Email

This system will send an email to the entire campus community — every student, faculty or staff member — through their UNCG mailbox.

Other Email Communication

Lists have been created to inform the resident student population through the Office of Housing & Residence Life, and to inform parents and family members who have signed up through the Office of Orientation & Family Programs.
